Sitecore xConnect - access to the registry key Global is denied

After checking my xConnect logs to ensure all was running smoothly the following error was present: [Error] Access to the registry key 'Global' is denied.System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the registry key 'Global' is denied. The fix for this error is to simply add the identity of the application pool that the xConnect site uses to the local group: Performance Monitor Users.
